State Audit Institution Chairs the Meeting of GCC Anti-Corruption Undersecretaries Committee

State Audit Institution chaired the eighth Meeting of GCC Anti-Corruption Undersecretaries Committee, which was launched via video conferencing from the SAI’s headquarters in Muscat on Monday, September 18, with the participation of Their Excellencies from the member SAIs, His Excellency the Assistant Secretary General for Legislative and Legal Affairs and a number of SAI specialists.
The meeting began with a speech by His Excellency Ahmed bin Salim Al Rujaibi, Deputy Chairman of the State Audit Institution, through which he expressed appreciation for the efforts exerted in the preparation of standard work manuals and implementation of professional capacity-building activities for the member SAIs’ employees. In addition, His Excellency praised the exchange of experiences and cooperation with academic institutions and relevant organizations. He also noted that the field of integrity promotion and anti-corruption is one of the areas requiring constant follow up on developments regionally and internationally, and active partnership with relevant organizations to achieve a higher level of efficiency in institutional performance and serve the inclusive and sustainable development goals. He further stressed the keenness of the Sultanate of Oman and GCC States to promote integrity and combat corruption to continue the march of development and realize the aspirations of their peoples.
During the meeting, a number of topics were reviewed and discussed, most notably the accession of the Gulf Cooperation Council as a regional organization to the United Nations Convention against Corruption, and the review of the proposed regulatory procedures with regard to the accession to the Convention, in addition to activating cooperation and coordination between the departments of cooperation and international relations in the GCC anti-corruption authorities and institutions, as well as the discussion of the action plan to achieve a higher level of cooperation. Moreover, the meeting discussed the excellence award for the ideal employee in the institutions responsible for protecting integrity and combating corruption in the GCC States and reviewed the candidates from member states, in addition to the joint Gulf program for awareness and education in the field of protecting integrity and combating corruption.
The meeting also reviewed draft joint manuals, namely the “Financial Declaration Manual”, “the Manual of Disclosure and Making Media Content Available to the Authorities and Institutions Responsible for Promoting Integrity and Combating Corruption in the GCC States”, presented by the State Audit Institution in the Sultanate of Oman, in addition to the “Strategic Manual for Coordination and Cooperation between the GCC Authorities and Ministerial Committees” within the framework of developing and implementing the mechanisms for preventing and combating corruption.
