The Sultanate of Oman, represented by State Audit Institution, participated in the Arab Forum entitled “Strengthening Anti-Corruption Efforts (Reality and Challenges)”, organized by the League of Arab States in Cairo, on Monday, 6th of May, 2024, at the Ritz-Carlton Cairo Hotel. The Forum witnessed wide international participation from Anti-Corruption Authorities in the States parties to the Convention, in addition to representatives of Supreme Audit Institutions, international organizations, civil society institutions, universities and professional institutions.

 

The Sultanate of Oman’s delegation was headed by His Excellency Sheikh Ghuson bin Hilal Al Alawi, Chairman of State Audit Institution, accompanied by specialists from the Institution.

 

The Arab Forum program, held under the theme Strengthening Anti-Corruption Efforts (Reality and Challenges), included three main sessions. The First Session reviewed the impact of implementing national anti-corruption strategies aimed at enhancing dialogue and cooperation between different relevant parties in Arab States to exchange views on the challenges facing the States parties to the Arab Anti-Corruption Convention in evaluating the impact of national strategies to prevent and combat corruption. Moreover, the Session reviewed the possible responses from an international perspective and benefiting from relevant comparative experiences in Arab and foreign States.

The Second Session of the Forum, entitled “The Use of Technology in Preventing and Combating Corruption,” addressed the role and importance of technology in reporting corruption, research and investigation of corruption crimes. The Session also reviewed the importance of digitization in improving services provided to citizens and facilitating State oversight as well as ensuring the integrity of providing service and benefiting from them.

 

      The Third Session of the Arab Forum shed light on the aspects of strengthening the role of private sector in combating corruption in the Arab States, by reviewing the role of the State in engaging the private sector in the fight against corruption and discussing the challenges encountered by governments to stimulate and evaluate companies' anti-corruption compliance programs. Furthermore, the Session reviewed the good practices in providing effective incentives to support the efforts exerted by the private sector in this regard, and its role in establishing sustainable business environment.
